The Circular Retrofit Lab is one of the pilot projects of the European Horizon 2020 project ‘Buildings as Material Banks’. It is situated in the former student homes on the campus of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), designed in the 1970s by Belgian architect Willy Van Der Meeren. Together with a wide range of industrial partners, VUB Architectural Engineering redeveloped the modular system, integrating the principles of circular design while still respecting the building’s heritage value.
Together with the team of researchers and architects Wesley Lanckriet helped realize the project. The research done at the VUB is tested and implemented in our own studio.
